Bahrain Human Rights Watch Society (BHRWS) is calling for a plan to confront any nuclear leakage

The Spokeswoman and Director of EU Division at Bahrain Human Rights Watch Society (BHRWS) Mrs. Naima Al-Mahjoubi expressed that the Society support and backing, which is emanating from its regional and international rights,  the question by the Member of the Shura Council Dr. Aisha Mubarak regarding (the phenomenon of nuclear proliferation in the region, future consequences, and potential dangerous environmental and health problems, which calls upon us to study the risk of this phenomenon on the system of the environment, as the countries in the region, including Bahrain, are exposed to occurrence of a hazardous environmental and health disaster, if these nuclear capabilities and programs are misused).

The question of Dr. Aisha Mubarak to the Government is resembled in these following points:

1-   What are the measures taken by the Government to monitor this danger?

2-  Is there any national plan for dealing with real risks, which threaten environment and health security of the Kingdom?

3-   Are the necessary precautions, taken by the Government, in place to guarantee non-effect in case of radiation leakage or pollution?

Mrs. Al-Mahjoobi added that this question is very important and express the concern of the Chairman and members of the Shura Council, in issues related to environment security and ensures non occurrence of catastrophic result in the Arabian Gulf and the world, because of the nuclear proliferation in the region, and that the Society is supporting the Science Advancement Movement, especially in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy in various medical, industrial and agriculture fields, and for producing electricity and desalination of sea water and other usages, useful to the process of human development in the region.

But, in the same time (BHRWS) expresses its concern and refusal for non-peaceful usage of this energy, which is against human rights principles, and what has been stated in the Convention on the Prohibition of the Nuclear Proliferation, which emphasizes the importance of its limitation to only   peaceful purposes for humanity.

The Society (BHRWS) calls upon all civil community institutions and the political, religion, law and trade unions and people societies in the Kingdom, stand to support these lofty principles which are supported by the international community and all its organizations.
